Nails: In Royal Occassion

Here's another quickie...

So tomorrow is Queen's Day. Which is a national holiday celebrated throughout the Dutch Kingdom (actually celebrating the birthday of the queen...not Beatrix, Juliana; the previous one). And since Curacao (my little beautiful island) is part of the Dutch Kingdom, we celebrate too.
Tomorrow is going to be the last Queens Day celebration for now. Since queen Beatrix has announced that on April 30th of this year she will abdicate and her son, Willem-Alexander will be inaugurated as king of the Dutch Kingdom.

Well, for as unpatriotic as I can be, I decided to do something on my nails for the last Queen's Day anyways.
Using the colors that are used during this celebration...
ORANGE (used wide-ranged representing the Dutch royal dynasty "House of Orange") and the color of the Dutch flag RED, WHITE and BLUE.

Yada yada yada...enough history lesson. This is the super quick nail art I ended up with...
Orange and white bases with red and blue accents...(with some gold glitters on the pinky)

Nails: Be My (unconventinal) Valentine

Bon siman dazzling, (which means Good week)

Valentines day is approaching...and we all know how commercialized the worldwide celebration of love and friendship is.
ALMOST every shop will be covered in white and red and eager people trying to find the perfect gift for their valentine...

And today I brought you a nail design especially made with Valentines Day in mind. Only, I decided not to use the conventional red and white combo. Thus the plea...for you to "Be My (unconventional) Valentine"

Hmmmm...a not-so-everyday combination? Mint green and hot pink...Bingo!

First I covered all the nails except the ring fingers in 'Mint Candy Apple'from Essie, and later I painted the ring fingers in 'The Pinky and The Brain'from Catrice/
Let them dry completely!
With a sharpie or a nail art pen, paint a big heart on the ring fingers and fill it in with a darker blue/green glitter hue. In this case I used 'Cosmo'from Jordana.
On the middle finger and the index I drew little hearts using 'The Pinky and The Brain' and a toothpick. Then drew little cute dotted lines under each heart with a nail art pen.

Once dry, seal it all in with your fave topcoat and go love a little out there.

Aaaaaaand that's all folks. I'll try and see if I can at least do one more v-day post before the 14th. But I won't promise. :P (What???? I'm LAZY sometimessss...you guys know that)

Make-Up: 'Blue water Flamingoes'

HAPPY NEW YEAR MY LOVEBUGSSSS!!!!

We made it through yet another year. And I'm happy to have you guys in 2013 with me... Be it to just read my blog, or to comment every now and then, or to inspire me, or to believe in my craziness....

In my last post I promised that I had some pending posts. One of them was make- up looks...

I thought I could make a collage of the make up looks to show you, but when I went through them I decided otherwise...

So here's the first post...'Blue water Flamingoes', a combination of gold, peach and blue.

To achieve this look is pretty easy. I first covered the whole eyelid with a goldy shade to start with. Then I added a peach shade on half the eyeball area...the outer half in this case. Next, I put some dark blue on the crease and accentuated the eye with a black shade in a V-shape starting from the upper lashes up to the outer crease. Don't forget to blend everything well. It is what makes a make up look beautiful and finished.

I wore a peach dress with blue accesoires...royal blue... So I wanted to have some blue in my make-up too but not too much. In addition to the blue in the crease, I lined my inner lower lid with a liquid eyeliner in electric blue...

And the make-up is ready... You can go out there and party like crazy now!

Nails: Fireworks and Glam

Here's a quick post, just to show you a very easy idea I had for new year nails.

First I had this very extravagant idea in my head, but when I executed it, that all it was...extravagant. And in my opinion, not in an all too cute way. So immediately I took em off...but not without shamelessly taking a picture first to show you guys. I mean...you have the right to see my fails too...-_-
Only thing about this idea...there was too much going on on one hand. Fireworks, wishes, champagne flute, glitters, polka dots... hmmmm waaaayyy tooooo much momma...way too much!

So the next I tried something more....basic and beautiful...black and glitter.
I covered my ring finger and my thumb in 'Circus Confetti' from Essence and the remaining nails are simply 'Black' from Jordana.
I opted for the 'Circus Confetti' because it's a multi-colored glitter shade. It gives the impression of a party, new year, fire works...happiness. But you can choose any glittery shade you like.

When the nails were dry, I did this wannabe gradient  diagonally on the pinky and the index finger using the 'Circus Confetti'. Notice that for a change, one gradient is coming down and the other one is going up.
On the middle finger, simply using white polish and a thin brush, I wrote 2013. Wait for it all to dry..top up with a shiny topcoat and boom...colorful, festive new year nails!

Nails: "Snow, man!!"

Christmas is just around the corner. The season of joy, peace, sharing, loving...and SNOW (in certain continents).

Here on Curacao it never snows...and it probably never will, unless nature goes really 'kaboozles'. So I decided to do a snowy Christmas nail art...just for fun. And I called it "Snow, man!" just to portrait the irony of having "snow" in a particularly warm weather Island in the Caribbean.

I first started with two coats of 'Sassy Sparkle' from LA Colors (Color Craze) on both my ring fingers and 'Ciao Bella' from Sinful Colors on all remaining fingers. Let them dry thoroughly as this is going to be the background color for the nail art and if it's not dry you'll end up with messy nails.

Once it's dry I added two circles on my index fingers using a dotting tool. A larger circle as the snowman's belly and a smaller one for the head. In between the circles I left a small open space for mr. snowman's shawl.
On the remaining fingers I added a snowflake (Conad stamp nr m59) and three dots with the dotting tool.

When mr. snowman's body was dry I drew a red shawl using a fine brush in 'Hot Red' from Jordana and added a green accent with 'Dark Green' from Nabi. With the same brush a painted what would be the nose of mr. snowman using 'Perfect Sunset' from LA Colors (Color Craze).
Then with the dotting tool and 'Black' from Jordana, I added eyes and a set of buttons for the snowman...

Ready!

   

Wait until it's dry...add your favorite topcoat and you're ready to rock these totally COOL nails for Christmas.

 


You can try this with an elf instead, with mr. or mrs Claus, a Christmas tree or Gingerbread man... The whole idea is to have fun!

In Your AdVintage

Today we have what I concider to be a retro/ vintage look. Hence the name 'In Your AdVintage'

At first I was going to do a simple swatch of the 'Nail'd it!'from Sally Hansen...

 

I love the soft lavender color of this polish (thou it looks pink-ish in the picture). Have to say it's pretty opaque as well, on the picture above I'm only wearing one coat. And I kept it at that.

Dries up very quickly so I could continue with my other things in no time flat.

...then the next day I decided to turn it up a bit. In Miami I bought a couple of Konad stamps. This is from the m65. I stamped the pattern on with 'Hypnotizing' from Jordana and added 'Gold Sparkle'from L.A. Colors to my ring finger.

Changed the whole look of things In Your AdVintage...:)

 

I'm up for simple nail arts these days...pretty perfect for busy ladies like myself.

'Welcome To Pretty-landia

'Welcome To Pretty-landia' ; the land of pretty damsels and beautiful girls.

Haha...

It's the feeling I got with this pretty simple nail design I tried this week. It's super simple...I quickly did it in the morning before leaving for work. So you'd get an idea of the true simplicity of this design. yeah, HAD to be simple!!!

It gives me the feeling of a flag... A very pretty flag haha. So I called it 'Welcome to Pretty-landia'
Use your imagination and picture the fairy-tale beauty of this land.

Since we are still in October (READ: breast cancer awareness month) I went for the pink again. At first I wanted to do a simple swatch but decided to jazz it up a little in the end.
This pink is the 'Look At Me' from Colormates. Yup, the one my mom swatched last week. Only, this time I added a shiny top coat. It is actually a deep pink with purple and blue-ish tiny glitters...very very tiny. I think they 'don't really stand out without a top coat. That, you can see on the first two pictures below. That's the color without the top coat on.

One very good thing about this color, was the fact that I could do with just one coat (if I wasn't up for a completely opaque finish)

Right on the index fingers I added simple  diagonal striped in 'Express in Yellow'from Jordana PopArt. And right when it was dry I adden a black twirly floral design.

Pretty enough to serve as the flag of the pretty land I have in my imagination. Hihi
You know, to represent the people of Pretty-landia (Like you for example! :D)

'I Have Boobies'

In honor of all the beautiful women (and men) battling breast cancer worldwide, THIS goes for you.

As you may already know, October is Breast cancer Awareness month. Pink Ribbons everywhere to raise awareness on this illness.

I know some people who battled breast cancer, and I'm aware women and men should get themselves examined every now and then. I've got a lot of admiration for those who live to share their experiences with others. My grain I want to contribute with this month is the following nail art. May I present to you ‘I Have Boobies’ a nail art for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

On the pinky, index finger and the thumb I used Metallic Champagne from Nabi, a super girly metallic pink.
The Glittery nail is Paparazzi from Colormates...lots and lots of glitter
The background of the accent nail is Little Brown Dress from Essie, the ribbon is in Picture Perfect Pink from Jordana Pop Art Nail Design and the little flower is a simple nail sticker..GORGEOUS isn't it?!

I was going to do some stamping on the Metallic Champagne nails, but decided in the end I’d better keep it on the simpler side.

Momsikens has been shopping in my stash lately for her very own NOTW. So far I could persuade her to try some very outspoken colors, like for example a bright banana yellow. This week she’s also on the pink side. WHOOT-WHOOT

This is the swatch of the Look at Me from Colormates. The Finish is more on the matte side; not COMPLETELY matte, as you can see, but it lacks shine. Nevertheless I think it’s a beautiful bright pink. Definitely a plus for my stash!

Crazy Miami Nail Hauling...

Well my beloveds...I'm back on the island since last night. Too quick...too quick!!
I'm still super exhausted but oh-so-satisfied...

Bought tons of clothes, lots of shoes, beautiful bags, bijou, some make-up, books, gifts and oh...nail polishes and nail accessories..(DUH)...lol

Hmmmm yup...a total of 25 new polishes arrived with me save and sound last night...

In due time when I try each one you'll get specific information about them all...this is just a post to give you a preview of the nail polish hauling I've done in Miami.

Sinful Colors

Up until now I haven't been able to find Sinful Colors on Curacao. In Miami I've seen a BUNCH of colors I was dying to buy...but...a lady can't just go back home with a luggage full of nail polishes right? So I only chose 3.. (hard decision..very very hard)!!

This is 'Dream On', 'Bali Mist' and 'Ciao Bella'...totally loving them all!!

These where found at a bargain price thou...a dollar for both. Nopes, not separately...0,50 dollars for each.  I guess you'd understand that I just had to have them...I mean... why not?

The Vitasurge is to try and add some strength to the nails since my nails have been splitting quite a lot lately and I don't appreciate that, really.
Vitamins are never overdone. The Vitasurge says to be a fast absorbing gel formula for weak nails that split and peel. It doesn't hurt to try it!!!

Besides the regular stuff above, I also found these Magnetics I wanted to try since I first saw them advertised in Cosmo...
So I bought them in three shades; 'Red-y Response', 'Kinetic Copper' and 'Graphite Gravity'

Color Mates

Yet another bargain. A dollar each...

I've never heard about this brand, but it wouldn't hurt to try new stuff at such low price. The name sounds cheap to me as a matter of fact...but the colors were just cute!

Here, 'Look at me', 'Paparazzi' and 'Stormy Weather'.

L.A. Colors
My stash is loaded with L.A. Colors polishes...I know!! But who can resist a fairy dust-ish glitter at a dollar? So yeah babes,...got it...beautiful glitters in 'Sassy Sparkle'.

Nabi
Talking about bargains... I found these when I stormed into a boutique at the Sawgrass mills in Ft Lauderdale to try on a cute dress I saw.
Never heard of the name before. But they were cheap..AND I found the light blue shade I've been looking for. So what was stopping me to just...you know...bring themhome?
These are 'Pastel Blue', 'Dark Green' and 'Metallic Champagne'.
I know, the Champagne looks a lot like the Bali from Sinful Colors. But in reality, the one is darker than the other.

Hard Candy
From a Hard Candy I only bought this top coat. I have been searching for it for a while already. It gives any color a matte finish...saves me the hazzle of buying lots of matte polishes...

Claire's
I almost...almost lost myself in Claire's. hahaha Well, not literally...but they just have soooo many cute things.
I simply tried to buy some of the most remarkable stuff I know I won't (easily) find here.
Like this multi-colored polish named 'Sand Art'. I know you can't quite see it on the picture, but it has neon orange, pink, yellow and purple..all in one bottle.
The bottle specifically says not to shake...hmmmm interesting! And oh..it's supposed to be strawberry scented when dry... Simply irresistible!!

Then I saw the Sun Changing shades. Supposed to turn another shade when you go outside... Curiosity made me buy these.
I only got two 'Here Comes The Sun' and 'Solar Eclipse'. As soon as I try them on I'll let you know if it really does what it says...

Lastly, the glow in the dark. Three normal polishes and two glittery.

And as you can see here...yup...they really do glow in the dark.

I also bought a nails stamping tool kit from Salon Express and 4 additional image plates from Konad.

And from Kiss I bought a box of Lacy Nail Dress Stickers and a some Nail Artist Flat Stickers...

And THAT's all the nail hauling I've done in Miami...
I think I've stayed on the average, don't you think?  hahaha... Well as soon as I start trying on these fabulous colors, you'll be the first to know. As for now, I need to catch up with my sleep...since I haven't been doing much of that this past week.
