In The Kitchen: Yamie Yamie Corn on the Cob

In the past weekend we had BBQ at home. And as a side I prepared some corn on the cob that came out delicious!!!

What you need:
- enough coconut milk to boils the corn in
- teaspoon of seasoning
- tablespoon of Sugar
- tablespoon of salt
- 3 to 4 big slices of garlic
- 2 tbspns of garlic butter
- 1 tbs of  cream cheese (mixed with powdered sugar)
- pinch of grated parmesan cheese

I used three cans of coconut milk. I mixed them with the seasoning, the salt, the sugar and the sliced garlic. Next I boiled the corn in this concoction for about 5 minutes.
And let it cool down a bit, leaving the corn to marinate in the mixture.

Next I added the garlic butter and the cream cheese to a clean pan and cooked each corn for about 2-3 minutes each. For ease of the process I pushed sticks in the corn before cooking them.
As soon as I was ready cooking them I put them on a piece of aluminium foil, sprinkled just a little bit of parmesan and rolled them up.

To keep them warm while we waited I pre-heated the oven, turned it off as soon as all the corn was ready and put the corn in the already warm oven.

Hair: The AvoCocos Home-Made Treatment

So yeah...it's been quite a while since I last posted...am sorry...really really am.

Been super busy lately! And whenever I promised myself to write a blogpost at night when I got home, I usually reach home  SO tired that I can't even move my pinky finger.
But I've tried something here...and I thought it would be interesting to share with you guys.

I've been natural for 4 years now, and I'm still smitten! Aha, with my hair that is. One thing I love is, trying out new hair products to see how my hair responds. So I might still take a detour from my normal hair routines to try something totally new (to me).
My hair is naturally very dry, and I constantly find myself applying loads of oil moisturizing creams. Which tends to leave my hair completely grimy and nasty to the touch
Last weekend I decided upon a homemade treatment to try and aid in this whole moisture process.

I call it the AvoCocos Home-Made Treatment...and yes...it's plain avocado and coconut oil.
I chose an overripe avocado since it's easier when preparing the paste.

Hair benefits of both ingredients are countless. Here, just a few:

Avocado:

• helps moisturizing the hair
• Packed with healthy oils
• Vitamin E powerhouse
• Repairs damaged hair
• Strengthens brittle hair
• Aids in Hair Growth
• Helps treating dandruff

Coconut Oil:

• Known as one of the best hair nutritions out there since it penetrates right in the hair itself and not just supperficially shines
• Aids in a healthy hair growth
• Gives a shiny complexion
• Reduces protein loss
• Is an EXCELLENT conditioner
• Helps re-growth of damaged hair and nourishes them
• Treats dandruff, lice and lice eggs
• Gives protection against hygral fatique

Of course there are more benefits...but these are just a few.

So here's what I did. First I washed my hair to get rid of all the built-up products. (and YES i washed it with shampoo. Beautiful textures for the matter). Next I towel dried my hair and grinded the fruit of one avocado with the coconut oil until it has the concistency of a fine greeny paste. (Note: it depends on the length and amount of your hair how much of the paste yoú'll have to make and how much avocado and coconut oil you'll have to use)

I then parted my hear in four sections and applied this paste generously to each section meaking sure each strand of hair is totally covered.
Since I did the whole treatment by night, I tuck it all in a shower cap and wrapped my head in a shawl while letting the treatment work overnite.

In the morning I rinsed the treatment out and co-washed my hair. All I needed to do thereafter is apply a leave-in and I was ready to rock.
Did the treatment on Friday night and up until today it hasn't been necessary to apply one drop of oil moisturizer. I only re-apply the leave-in in the morning and leave the house.
My hair has been quite shiny to my opinion. All without the grimmy feels when I touch it.
I only need now one ingredient to help soften the hair a bit more, since the coconut oil "dries"my hair just a little bit and makes it feel rough to the touch.
Thought about using coconut milk or coconut cream next time instead of the oil...I'm only afraid I'd loose all the nutrients in a can.
But all by all...I love the AvoCocos and would definitely try it again..

'I'll Pink about it'

And it's time for yet another make-up look...

I had this one pending for a while, just didn't have enough time to post it.
But here it goes, hope you like it.

This one's called 'I'll Pink about it'...and as the name implies it's basically pink.

Used a semi-soft pink eyeshadow from the Profusion Eyeshadow Pallette and the waterproof eyeliner pen from E.L.F. to achieve the eye-look. I didn't want the line of the eyeliner all too thick, so I tried to keep it as close to the lash line as possible. And sincerelly...I love the eyes!

On the cheeks I used Blushing Rose from Jordana and Hot Pink on the lips...also from Jordana

Now that I see the pictures, maybe I should have gone for a sheer pink for the lips or opted for softer eyes. That is, of course, to achieve a softer version of the same look.

Either way, it's all about trials and errs...and as you can see, I enjoy trying!

Product Review: Beautiful Textures line (For curly, wavy, kinky, coily & frizzy hair types)

For those of you who know me (and those who payed attention), I've been sporting my natural kinky curls for almost 4 years now.
Up until now it has been a wonderful experience...no regrets whatsoever. But it has also been a constant trial and err with different curly hair products to see what works best with my type of hair...

Recently I noticed the Beautiful Textures hair care line for Curly, wavy, kinky, coily & Frizzy hair. Really, it can just NOT go unnoticed with a bright orange bottle and purple cap.

First Impression of the product? "Hmm, interesting. Pretty nutritive ingredients for the hair. Aloe Vera, Coconut oil, Argan Oil, Shea Butter and olive oil to name a few.
And all this for a very reasonable price (aprox. $ 7 a bottle)
So I bought the shampoo, leave-in conditioner, deep conditioning cream, the whipped butter and the curl control lotion...just so I could try the whole line for once. Without having to mix it with any other brand.

The tangle taming shampoo

I'm the type of a lazy girl that doesn't wash my hair as regular as I should. So when I finally wash it, it's full of built up products. And if I've been wearing it down, also full of neck breaking knots.
This shampoo actually does what it promises...
In one shampoo it already foams up into an exotic smelling lather, leaving your hair smelling and feeling really clean. A second shampoo was not really necessary.
The multiple knots were also easier to manage...even without conditioner I coulld start running my fingers through the hair without much effort.

The Rapid Repair Deep Conditioner

To my opinion it lacks the thickness and creamy texture I'm used to. To think about it, I did not feel as thou my hair has been deep conditioned. There was nothing extraordinarily remarkable about the hair after the usage of this particular product, other that the breath taking exotic smell and the lightness.
It does serve thou (very well) as a regular conditioner. And it also helps awesomely with the detangling. I could detangle bigger sections at once without getting watery eyes. ;)

The Leave-In Conditioner

Also, not the best conditioner out there to my opinion. It did not give me the "WOWWW" effect at all, but if you're looking for a light-weight, nice smelling leave in...this is definitely it.
It does help very well in the detangling process and it provides great manageability. It's the perfect product for a wash and go and it feels more like a moisturizer than it feels like a conditioner.
But since it's light-weight you might be tempted to use more and to my opinion it lacks that silky feeling of a conditioner. But absolutely not a bad product at all.

The Curl Control Defining Pudding

The Curl Control Defining Pudding help giving a beautiful definition to my natural curls. I have the impression it makes them look healthy, full of body and well moisturized... Read: no frizzy, electrocuted hair...a bonus! It's a must have!
After testing the complete line together, I mixed it up with my regular moisturizing lotion... The results were fantastic, thou a littlebit too greasy. But my curls look maneagable and don't get stiffen up as with some other products I've tried.

The Moisture Butter Whipped Curl Creme

My very favorite product in this line yet! It has just the right amount of oils. So not to stay greasy. It's thick in concistency and gives a healthy shine to my curls and a light hold so I didn't even have to use any hair-gel. I have experienced that on very hot days the moisture would wear out thou later in the afternoon and I had to re-apply to keep the look intact. But I consider this to be a total love jammed in a pot. Also, a must have...I really recommend this one!
